Number 91 on the 2025 list
Jakaya Kikwete is a chair from Tanzania, named to the AFN 100 in 2025 for chairing the Africa Food Prize Committee that honoured two women scientists.
Former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete chaired the Africa Food Prize Committee that in September 2025 gave its US$100,000 prize to two women scientists, Kenya's Mary Abukutsa-Onyango and Nigeria's Mercy Diebiru-Ojo, for work on indigenous vegetables and clean cassava and yam seed. He said the two represent the best of African innovation, and that real change means valuing the seeds, systems and knowledge behind Africa's food.
