Number 100 on the 2024 list
Wawira Njiru is a founder and executive director from Kenya, named to the AFN 100 in 2024 for winning the Lipman Family Prize and Skoll Award for Food for Education's school meals.
2024 was a year of global recognition for Wawira Njiru's Food for Education. In March Wharton named it one of three winners of the Lipman Family Prize, with an unrestricted US$125,000, citing school meals for 300,000 children daily. In April she and her team received the Skoll Award for Social Innovation in Oxford. In Nairobi's programme children pay Sh5 a meal, with the county and a donor covering the rest of the Sh40 cost.
