Pork Trotters

Pork trotters or pig trotters are a protein of variety, you are able to prepare these to have as a main meal with lots of sauce/gravy, or you can have them as a snack.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 medium pork trotters
  • 1 beef stock cube
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • 3 tablespoon barbeque spice
  • 3 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 8 cups hot water
  • salt to taste

Instructions
 

  • Rinse the trotters under clean running water
  • Add water into a deep pot, add the trotters (ensure that the trotters are completely covered with water, add more water if necessary)

  • Add the stock cube into the pot, close the pot, and allow to boil on medium heat until soft; this should take about three hours
    1 beef stock cube
  • Once the trotters are soft, drain excess water if there is any (pour the water into a bowl to use at a later stage)
  • In a separate pot, add a little bit of cooking oil, followed by the onion. Fry until translucent, and then add the trotters and give them a little toss
    1 medium onion (chopped)
  • Pour in the spice and allow the spice to fry for about five minutes. Follow with the tomato paste and the water you drained earlier or fresh water
    3 tablespoon barbeque spice, 3 tablespoon tomato paste
  • Allow to simmer for 5 minutes before serving with hot pap.
