Hi guys, it’s Easter and I decided to go to the most loved grilled fish spot in Abuja and it was nice…? Okay, that “nice” comes with a coma because something happened to me but we will keep it for the end!
As a foodie, I loved the environment, because when you enter the place, the smell of fish fills your nose, there are varieties to pick from and generally, you’d want to buy the whole market.
So I picked the fish I wanted after properly vetting it and went round as usual to make videos of the environment, the Fish and everything they sell. At the end of the day I found out that the vendor that that sold fish to me sold me spoilt fish! And that was how N4,500 went down the drain. A whole FOUR THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED NAIRA in this economy.
Learn from me guys, make sure you check it properly, your eyes should be on your fish, don’t go anywhere when they’re preparing it, except you have a customer.
Prices are from N2,500 for Fish and N200 for Suya and it’s located at Mugadishu Barracks, Abuja, Nigeria.
Make sure to check it out when you’re around!
Bye guys, see you next time!

don't leave us hanging like this abeg! What happened at the end? Last time I was at Abacha barracks back in 2019, the smoke from those charcoal grills nearly blinded me before the fish even arrived, but that spicy croaker with extra utazi leaves was worth every bit of it. Hard to get decent whole croaker here in Maryland unless you go to the Asian markets in Rockville, and even then the grill flavor is never the same.
That blinding smoke is how you know it is going to be proper lekker! Gas or oven grills just cannot recreate a real charcoal braai flavor. Here in Durban, I buy an 800g whole red stumpnose from the fish market past the second robot on Umgeni Road, dust it with 20g of Robertsons Peri-Peri spice, and put it straight onto the coals. Still, nothing quite replicates that West African heat. I will reply to what happened next in the story just now!
Herh, you cannot just drop that 'coma' comment and walk away oo! Is it that they gave you stomach trouble or someone picked your wallet while you were waiting for the fish? Reminds me of the tilapia joints at Osu night market where the wait time can take over an hour if you don't book early.
Esi my sister, no be stomach trouble o! In Nigeria, when we say food coma after eating Abacha Barracks fish, it just means the spicy catfish was so delicious that you will sleep soundly for hours after. But you are very correct about the wait time sha, you really need patience before that fish reaches your table.
You definitely got billed double for the roasted plantain, didn't you? Those Abacha barracks women will look at your face and decide croaker is double the price today sha. Missing that open air smoke vibe though... in Dallas here we have to settle for oven baked fish because apartment fire alarms don't play.
Chale what was the coma story? Did the raw scotch bonnet pepper in the sauce catch you off guard? I hear Nigerian grilled catfish sauce has way more raw pepper than our hot pepper for banku.
